Phyllis Hansen

Mayfield, Utah – Phyllis Hendrickson Hansen, age 90 of Mayfield, passed away August 25, 2025, in Centerfield, Utah. She was born on May 19,1935 in Gunnison, Utah. She was the fourth of six daughters and one son of Oras Christian and Josie Jensen Hendrickson. There has never been a little girl born, or will there be hence, that loved her mom and dad more than Phyllis. Her happiest time of life was growing up with her sisters, Jean, Bernita, Norma, Myrna, Enid, her baby brother, Hal, and her parents. The stories that she told painted pictures in our minds of an idyllic childhood. She adored her grandparents! One of Phyllis’s favorite things to do after the daily chores were done was to make sure that all the rugs around the family radio were clean. Here the family would gather to listen to their favorite radio shows with a treat of popcorn or ice cream.

Phyllis married Douglas C. Hansen on February 8, 1957. The newlyweds were crazy in love! They were the loving parents of four wonderful children, Julie, Kathy, Mitzi, and Jason. Phyllis and Doug also built Hansen Long Haul Trucking. They would haul grain from Calgary, Canada to Long Beach, California, taking bananas on the return trip. They were lucky enough to take their son Jason along for the adventure during the summer months, always playing country music from the 8-track player. Phyllis and Doug loved camping, fishing, and jeep riding with family, a love that they passed down to their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Phyllis was a supreme housekeeper and an even better cook. Her house always smelled of something sweet being baked in the kitchen. Those that came to visit were delighted with raisin-filled cookies, chocolate cake, or other delicious treats.

Phyllis loved working at the Senior Citizen Center in Gunnison! Some of her favorite times were taking her friends in the van to see the Autumn leaves along the Alpine Loop or taking the ladies to see the Christmas lights. She also loved her trips to Mesquite with her friends.

Gran loved having all her granddaughters down to spend time in the summer. Days were filled with trips to the Mayfield Mall, the park to burn our bums on the slide, floating Winnie the Pooh Sticks down the creek, penny candy, and kitten snuggling. Gran showed us the joy of having a cold Coke and chocolate cake for breakfast (or any time of day really), or that hot Tang and Pop Tarts are the perfect combination. Gran always carried a Mary Poppins bag, complete with scissors to cut her hamburger lettuce and anything else that Let’s Make a Deal could ask for.

Grandma’s true love was having her two grandsons Christian and Parley live so close to her. She loved that they could ride their bicycles over to watch tv, have pancakes, laugh, and play. She was their biggest cheerleader, and they were her biggest fans.

Phyllis is survived by her sister Norma (Clyde) Peterson and her brother Hal (Robyn) Hendrickson, her four children, Julie (Stephen) Petersen, Kathy (Malo) Slade, Mitzi (Kirk) Murray, and Jason Hansen. She has 7 granddaughters and 2 grandsons along with 14 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Oras and Josie, her husband, Doug, her sisters Jean, Bernita, Myrna, Enid and brother in laws.

To all of the doctors, nurses, and other caregivers, thank you for caring for our feisty Phyllis!

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. in the Mayfield LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the services.
