Phyllis Jean Himebaugh, age 85, of Lansing, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 2, 2024, at MYMichigan Medical Center in Alma surrounded by her family.
Born to Coyne and Eva (Culy) McCracken on December 27, 1938, in
Carson City, Michigan; Phyllis was the youngest of four children and grew up on a crop and dairy farm. She graduated from Carson City High school in 1957 and attended Huntington College.
Phyllis married Max E. Himebaugh Sr. on July 17th, 1959 at the Mt. Hope United Brethren Church of Carson City. They shared 43 years of wedded bliss and made their home in Lansing, Michigan.
She was a live-in caretaker in her early career and also worked at St. Lawrence Hospital. She was an accomplished homemaker, making a refuge and homebase for her family and helping them with their activities. She supported her husband Max, who worked at GM as an electrician. Her hobbies included baking, sewing, quilting, crocheting, collecting family photographs and traveling to see family and friends. She was a faithful member of Colonial Village Baptist Church, where she often helped prepare funeral meals, managed the phone tree contacts and monthly birthday group celebrations. Phyllis also worked with the elderly, taking them to doctor's appointments or helping as needed. Her biggest joy was being a wonderful wife, best mother ever, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. She loved children and provided daycare for her grandkids and other little ones over the years.
Left to cherish Phyllis's beloved memory are her children Pamela (Tom) Moore, Ileen Peterson and Max (Lisa) Himebaugh Jr. Grandchildren, Joshua (Joanna) Moore, Elizabeth Moore, Joseph (Erica) Moore, Nathan Peterson, Ryan (Sidney) Peterson, and Jonathan Westerfield. Great-grandchildren, Ryan Barrett, Mara Barrett, Charles Robbins and Jonathan Westerfield 2nd. Sisters Margaret Puffpaff and Betty Raymond, Sister-in-Law Dinah McCracken. Brother-in-law Roger (Carol) Himebaugh, sister-in-law Carolyn(Jean) McCarthy, brother-in-law, Ken Hubbell. Cousins Dean(Gloria) McCracken, Carolyn(Bruce) Dodson, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Also very loved by Phyllis were Beverly Hartman and special friends who shared coffee therapy, porch chats, luncheons and travel adventures.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max E. Himebaugh Sr., parents Coyne and Eva McCracken, parents-in-law Clifford and Allegra Himebaugh, older brother Donald McCracken, brothers- in-law Fred Puffpaff and Rex Raymond, sister-in-law Charlene Hubbell, and son-in-law William Peterson.

A memorial service for Phyliis will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 12 pm at the Lux and Whiting Funeral Chapel, Breckenridge with Pastor Randy Morgan officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 am until time of service at the funeral chapel. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Isabella County at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in Phyllis's memory, to her current home church Lifeway Community Church( previously named CVBC).
