Phyllis Louise Hurley

1935 - 2023

PHYLLIS LOUISE (LESTER) HURLEY, 88 years of age of Hurley, VA, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at her home following an extended illness. Born in Hurley, VA, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bessie (Midkiff) Lester.
She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Vansant Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and was a former secretary for Knox Creek Coal Company for 40-years. Phyllis enjoyed reading and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernie Hurley; brother, Robert F. Lester; sister, Ann Tester; brother-in-law, Earl Tester; great-grandson, Jacob Watkins.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Kenneth Hurley of Hurley, VA; brother, Jerry (Debbie) Lester of Hurley, VA; grandchildren, Kenneth Hurley II (Nicole), Amanda Kenny (Paul) and Aimee Watkins (Gabe); great-grandchildren, Paul Kenny, Christian Kenny, Andrew Kenny, Zackary Hurley, Zivana Hurley and Lukas Watkins.
Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends called by the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. with services at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services for Phyllis Louise (Lester) Hurley were conducted Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Curtis Stacy officiating with entombment following in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, VA.
Active pallbearers were family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Special Care Hospice & Home Health, Joann Mounts, Donna Mounts, Kayla Stump and Christy Hurley.
