Phyllis Iorio Obituary
Phyllis Iorio, 90, of Calabash NC, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Phyllis was born on May 25,1935, to the late Gerardo Rescigno and Domenica (Algero) Rescigno of Westcherster, New York.
Phyllis dedicated her early years to working as a telephone operator, where she was known for her warm voice and ability to connect with people effortlessly. Outside of her professional life, Phyllis had a rich tapestry of interests that brought joy to her family and friends. An avid crocheter and sewer, she created beautiful pieces that were cherished by those who received them. Phyllis also enjoyed playing games such as canasta and mahjong, often gathering loved ones around the table for an evening of fun and laughter.
Cooking and entertaining were among Phyllis's greatest passions. She delighted in preparing elaborate meals and hosting gatherings, creating an inviting atmosphere full of love and warmth. Her flair for fashion was evident in her love of shopping for clothes, always taking the opportunity to express her unique sense of style.
She is survived by her devoted husband James John Iorio, her daughter Patricia and husband Michael, and son James Jr.; Her treasured grandchildren Allison Springer and husband Todd, Kristen Butkus and husband Tim. Great grandchildren; Adeleine Springer and Timothy Butkus.
Phyllis is also survived by two sisters, Rose Rescigno and Geraldine Boling and a brother John and his wife Angela, Several nieces/Nephews; Gerard, Jennifer, Carole and Robert. She is preceded in death by her sister Marianne Rescigno.
Phyllis will be remembered for her kindness, her vibrant spirit, and the love she shared with all who knew her. Her legacy of warmth and generosity will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
