Phyllis Mae Jahn, age 100, of Deer Park, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane.
Born on April 7, 1925, in Echo, Minnesota, Phyllis was the only child of Harry and Hildora Vahl. She spent her early years in Echo during the challenging times of the Great Depression, surrounded by the love of extended family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. After graduating high school, she pursued her passion for education and earned her teaching certificate in her early twenties. She taught fourth grade for several years before marrying Robert W. Jahn on June 17, 1950, in her hometown of Echo.
Following their marriage, the couple moved to Missoula, Montana, where Robert, a Navy veteran of World War II, studied accounting under the G.I. Bill. Their journey later took them to Seattle, Washington, where they raised their family. Together, they were blessed with four children, Michael, David, Mary Jo, and Eric. Their marriage of 32 years ended with Robert's passing at the age of 55, and Phyllis remained a devoted widow for many decades.
Phyllis will be remembered for her warm spirit, joyful laughter, and deep love for her family. She had a strong Christian faith, rooted in her Lutheran upbringing, and found great love and comfort in hymns and Scripture. Even in later years, when she could no longer attend church in person, she remained connected through Christian television programs like TBN and the 700 Club. A faithful follower of current events, she also enjoyed keeping up with the news, especially Fox News, and was always ready with an update for anyone curious about the world.
She is survived by her children, Michael Jahn, David Jahn, Mary Jo Endress, and Eric Jahn, along with ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, many of whom live in Eastern Washington. For her recent 100th birthday Phyllis joyfully celebrated with her loving family, a milestone that brought everyone great pride and gratitude.
Phyllis's life reflected unwavering faith, commitment, and the enduring values of a bygone generation. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard, Washington, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Robert. A Celebration of Life gathering will also be held at her daughter's home in Deer Park, Washington, with details forthcoming.
Condolences and cards may be sent in care of Mary Jo Endress, P.O. Box 314, Deer Park, WA 99006. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Phyllis, please visit our floral store.
