Phyllis Marie Roxbury Mahan, 90, of
Punxsutawney, PA, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, while a resident of Mulberry Square in Punxsutawney. Born on March 27, 1934, in Youngstown, OH, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Roberta (Pomroy) Roxbury. In her early years, her family relocated to Newport News, VA, where she graduated from high school. On February 28, 1957, Phyllis married the love of her life, Robert G. Mahan, in Newport News. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, adventure, and cherished memories. Robert, who survives her, first met Phyllis while roller skating, a pastime that sparked a lifelong partnership. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Punxsutawney, where they became devoted members of the First English Lutheran Church.
Phyllis was a dedicated homemaker who created a warm and loving environment for her family. She was deeply involved in her children's lives, participating in activities such as the PTA, band parents, and youth sports to ensure they felt supported. Her devotion extended beyond the home as she and Robert embraced a nomadic lifestyle, traveling across the country in their RV. Their journeys, which began in 1984, took them to every state except Hawaii and most of Canada. Wherever they went, they made friends and memories with fellow travelers.
An adventurer at heart, Phyllis also loved riding motorcycles and snowmobiling with her husband and friends. She cherished the great outdoors and maintained an active lifestyle. Earlier in life, she displayed a creative side with her talent for painting ceramics and was known for her enthusiastic holiday decorating, which brought joy to those around her. She was also a big football fan, especially the Steelers and Penn State.
Phyllis had many hobbies, including baking, collecting Coca-Cola bottles, solving puzzle books, and playing cards. She especially treasured the annual New Year's Eve card games, which became a beloved family tradition. Above all, Phyllis loved her family and found great joy in the life she shared with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
