Phyllis Juanita Murphy, a beacon of love and compassion, passed away on February 24, 2025, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, at the age of 86. Born on April 19, 1938, in Leola, Arkansas, Phyllis devoted her life to the care and nurturing of others, forging a legacy of kindness that will forever resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Phyllis's career as a caregiver was marked by her unwavering dedication to those in need. She worked for many years at Carthage Nursing Home, where her gentle spirit and kind demeanor brought comfort to residents and staff alike. Her commitment continued as she transitioned to being a home caregiver, selflessly dedicating herself to improving the lives of families during their toughest times. Phyllis possessed a remarkable ability to make friends wherever she went, and those friendships were a reflection of her generous heart and unwavering support.
Her education began in Leola, from which she graduated high school in 1956. However, it was the lessons learned beyond textbooks—the importance of compassion, empathy, and faith—that truly shaped Phyllis into the loving person she was. Her devotion to God anchored her throughout her life, guiding her actions and interactions with everyone she met.
Phyllis's personality was a blend of grace and warmth. Truly a beautiful and amazing individual, she touched countless lives with her kindness. She never encountered a negative word about her; rather, she left an indelible mark of positivity in the hearts of those she served. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Wayne Murphy, whose love was a cornerstone of her life.
As a mother, Phyllis lovingly raised five children—Wade Sandlin (and his wife, Karen), Edith King, Elizabeth Murphy (and her partner, Riley), and William Sandlin (and his wife, Angela)—who carry forward her legacy of love and strength. Each of them reflects her nurturing spirit and commitment to family. She took immense pride in her children, always cherishing the experiences and challenges of motherhood, considering them her proudest accomplishments.
Phyllis is survived by her loving sister Wilma Finley and brother Jim Giles, alongside her children, who will forever strive to honor her memory. They will remember her not just as a mother, but as a source of inspiration and support, always encouraging them to be their best selves.
In addition to her extensive network of family and friends, Phyllis had a passion for gardening, spending hours nurturing flowers and feeding the birds and animals that graced her home. Her love for the outdoors and the sunshine reflected her vibrant spirit and connection to the beauty of life.
Though Phyllis is preceded in death by her mother Annie Giles, father Sim Giles, her son Jack Sandlin, and nine beloved siblings, her spirit lives on in the hearts of her family and the many lives she touched during her remarkable journey.
Phyllis Juanita Murphy leaves behind not just a legacy of care and compassion, but a profound reminder of the importance of kindness in our world. Her life was a testament to love, faith, and unwavering courage—a shining example for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
