Phyllis Prunty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 4, 2025.
Phyllis Ann Prunty, age 94, of Lawrenceville, Georgia passed away peacefully on May 29,2025. She will be remembered for her kind and giving heart. She loved people and loved being kind.

On September 7, 1930, Phyllis was born to Raymond Harold "Harry" and Edna C. (Kamp) Bass of Toluca, Illinois. After graduation from high school, she was employed by GE in Bloomington, Illinois. Phyllis was married to Jerry Lynn Prunty, of Lincoln, Illinois, in 1960, and the couple moved to the Atlanta area in 1966. They had been married 49 years when Jerry passed away in 2009.

As a longtime member of the Living Grace Lutheran Church in Tucker, Georgia, you would often find Mrs. Prunty volunteering in the church kitchen, preparing for various receptions and luncheons, always with a smile and a warm welcome

Phyllis loved Big Band music and during her early years, taught dance at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. She was an amazing dancer and had a remarkable ability to learn new dances with ease and grace. Mrs. Prunty worked in retail for many years at Rich's and Macy's department stores. She was constantly running into past customers that would remember her helping them at the store. Phyllis was an excellent cook and loved to have friends over for dinner. She was proud of Toluca's Italian food, and baked ziti was a favorite dish. She loved to play cards and enjoyed the company of her so many friends. She never lost a Bocce Ball game against anybody.

Mrs. Prunty was a member of many organizations, notably the Red Hat Club in Lawrenceville, the Lawrenceville Women's Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Newcomer's Club and the Widows Club. She also enjoyed working as a concession area volunteer at the Aurora Theater.

Because her brother Duffy Bass was one of the best college baseball coaches ever, Phyllis loved baseball. She was a huge Atlanta Braves' fan and brought them luck by watching almost all of their 2021 games. She also loved playing golf while her husband was alive.

Mrs. Prunty loved Georgia and missed her Illinois (Toluca, Peoria, and Bloomington).

Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband Jerry; parents Harry and Edna Bass; brothers Rodger D. Bass (Sharon); Harry Kamp "Hank" Bass (Mary Ellen); Buford H. Duffy Bass (Helen) and Russell "Russ" (Nellie) Bass. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was very proud of her brothers and loved all her nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Prunty will be held on June 7th, 2025, at the Living Grace Lutheran Church, 1812 Cooledge Road, Tucker, GA 30084. Refreshments will be served after the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Family and friends would like to express heartfelt appreciation to Delmar Gardens and Capstone Hospice for their compassionate care. To the members of the Living Grace Lutheran Church for their prayers and support. To Wages & Sons Funeral Home and the Cremation Society of Georgia for their service after her passing.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to the Living Grace Lutheran Church, 1812 Cooledge Road, Tucker GA 30084.
