Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral and Cremation Greenridge Chapel - GreenfieldPhyllis M. Serio, age 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on February 5, 2026, after a brief illness. Born on July 6, 1947, Phyllis was the only child of I. “John” and Audrey (nee Ruthenberg) Serio. She is reunited with both in Eternal Life and will rest with them at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Phyllis was a devoted daughter, loyal friend, and cherished cousin. Her large and loving family were the center of her life. She is survived by her many precious cousins (“The Cugini Pazzi”), lifelong friend and “sister of the heart” Janet (Tony) Machi, and her beloved “children of her heart,” Jillian, Emily (Paul), and Toni. “Grauntie” Phyllis adored Sydney, Zoe, Gryffin, Ian, and Kaliyah like grandchildren. She is further survived by countless dear friends, extended family members, clients, and loved ones who were all blessed to know her.
A proud alumna of St. John’s Cathedral High School, Phyllis went on to earn her cosmetology license and embarked on a career as a talented and dedicated hairdresser for more than fifty years. She proudly owned her own business and poured her heart into her work and serving her clients. She had a gift not only for styling hair but for making people feel seen, confident, and cared for.
Phyllis will be remembered as a bright light — the life of the party, full of laughter and warmth. Her presence made every gathering more joyful. Her love, spirit, style, and sparkle will be deeply missed and forever carried in the hearts of those who loved her.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 9, at St. Matthias Catholic Church, 9306 W. Beloit Road, Milwaukee, 53227. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Joyful colors, fun photos, and memorable stories will be welcomed. A gathering to celebrate our beloved Phyllis will follow.
