Phyllis Mae (Amundson) Skinner passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, at Heatherwood Assisted Living, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Phyllis was born on October 7, 1931, in Minneapolis, MN, the only daughter of Phillip and Leah (Carpentier) Amundson. She was baptized on January 10, 1932, at St. Philip's Church in Minneapolis. Phyllis pursued her passion for nursing and graduated from Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. During this time, she met the love of her life, Donald Skinner.
Phyllis and Donald were united in a Christ-centered marriage on May 8, 1955, at Plymouth Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Together, they built a loving home and were blessed with four wonderful children: David, Lori, Mark, and Thomas. The family lived in Austin, MN, until 1984, before moving to Eau Claire, WI.
In Eau Claire, Phyllis dedicated herself to serving others, working as a nurse at Immanuel Lutheran College and as a dormitory supervisor for high school and college students. She retired from Immanuel in 1998 but continued to serve in various nursing roles throughout the Eau Claire area.
Phyllis cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was also deeply involved with her church family, joyfully serving her Savior through Immanuel Lutheran College and Messiah Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the women's Bible study and found great fulfillment in teaching Sunday School.
Phyllis will be dearly missed by her three sons: David Skinner of Rochester, MN; Mark Skinner of Augusta, WI; and Thomas Skinner of Augusta, WI; daughters-in-law Cindy Skinner and Jill Ludowese. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jennifer (Joe) Skinner, Jaclyn (Jeremy) Brotherton, Matthew Ludowese, Grace Skinner, Cory Patterson, Alexis (Frank) Turner, Jeremy (Kendra) Skinner, Anna (Adam) Beguhn, and Austin (Brianna) Skinner; as well as her great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law Roxanne Bellrichard and Rita Kester, along with extended family, friends, the many dorm students at Immanuel Lutheran College and High School, and members of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother, Leah; father, Phillip; stepmother, Helen; her beloved husband of 64 years, Donald Skinner; her daughter, Lori Skinner; daughter-in-law, Christy Skinner; sister-in-law, Marcia Wilke; and nephew, Tod Wilke.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff of Heatherwood Assisted Living and the members of Messiah Lutheran Church for their love and care for Phyllis.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, WI. Family and friends are welcome to gather beginning at 12 p.m.. A luncheon will be provided by the Messiah Lutheran Church Ladies Auxiliary following the service.
