Pastor Phyllis Renae Kennedy was a powerful and anointed pastor and psalmist whose life impacted countless
people through love, empowerment, motivation, and impartation. Born on May 29, 1957, in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, as the first daughter to Bishop Leo and Lady Anna Kennedy. At an early age, she accepted Christ
at Corinth Baptist Church in her hometown where her father was the pastor. The Kennedy family relocated to
Houston, Texas in 1973 following her father's spiritual calling.
Her early education began in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and upon arriving in Houston, she attended and
graduated from Forest Brook High School. She also attended Texas Southern University and earned her
Bachelor of Theology from Spirit of Life Christian University.
Her love for music began with great excitement when she joined the Prestonians Community Choir in
Milwaukee. Her assignment did not stop after moving to Texas. At the age of sixteen, she became the director
of the New Community Baptist Church choir. Organizing a one-hundred-voice choir, "New Children of Christ,"
along with Darryl Rushing, was her initial offering. Positive comments concerning her unusual and spirited
directing spread rapidly throughout the community. Her extraordinary talent enabled her to compose numerous
songs and produce several albums. Among those recordings are, "I Am Determined," and "Gotta Keep on
Moving." In addition to these albums, Pastor Kennedy collaborated with a wide range of local and national
gospel artists. She was also the founder of Reborn Crusade Choir and the gospel group Anointed Power. In
addition to her music, Pastor Kennedy was the founder of the well-known conference, All Nations in Praise
(A.N.I.P.). This conference has recorded and distributed two albums: "Let the Praises Go Up," (Praise and
Worship conference 2002), and "Thanks for Everything," (Praise and Worship Conference 2005). "It's Praise
Time in the House" was released in 2010. Since that time, she has recorded several additional songs, such as
"It's a Good Day" and "God is with You."
Pastor Kennedy has also written and published multiple books. Her first book, "She Just Wanted to Preach,"
details the obstacles she overcame after accepting God's call to the ministry. She also wrote a 31-day journal
called 'My Morning Worship and Meditation: 21 Days of Joy".
Pastor Kennedy was called to preach and was ordained, under the leadership of Pastors Kenneth and Cynthia
Skelton of Spirit of Life Church. Eventually, she returned to New Community Baptist Church (Bishop L. A.
Kennedy) which later became The Fellowship of Enlightenment (Pastor Lawrence Woods), to serve as Minister
of Music for over 15 years. Then, in 2017 she became the proud pastor of Impartation Worship Center which
she founded and organized. Pastor Kennedy's desire in founding her church was to build Faith Walkers. Her
mission was to bless the body of Christ through the Word of God and song. She believed that "worship is the
heartbeat of God" and she was quoted as saying, "If I cease to worship, I cease to exist!"
Pastor Kennedy transitioned from time to eternity on January 28th. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Bishop L. A. Kennedy and Lady Anna Kennedy and her brother, Mark Kennedy.
She is survived by her children, Lekesha Kennedy Garrett (Rod) and Airika Taylor: her brother, Terrell Kennedy
(Evelyn); her sisters, Stacey Kennedy Woods (Lawrence) and Angela Kennedy-Wright; her 4 grandchildren,
Mia Garrett, Myles Garrett, Steven Kiner II and Kyren Glaude and her nieces, nephews, great nieces, great
nephews, god children, cousins, friends and devoted church members (Impartation Worship Center).
Additionally, her best friend, Adriane Frieson and her faithful armor-bearer, Vanessa Davis.
