Phyllis J. Vanhooser, at the age of 80 years, passed away on February 7, 2026.
Phyllis was born in Graham, on October 18, 1945, to the late Frances and RC Thetford. She graduated from Graham Highschool in 1965. She met her husband Stanley L. Vanhooser at a rodeo where she was barrel racing and they were married in Graham, TX on June 3, 1967.
She was generous with her spirit, joy and time leaving a special mark on everyone that she shared a moment with. She grew up enjoying time with her six siblings, horses, barrel racing and participating in rodeo parades. She had several jobs throughout her career, supporting her husband and their veterinary practice, working for different universities and organizations as an office administrator. Her favorite job was as a wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed several hobbies like music, making stained glass and spending time with family, playing games, fishing and traveling. She and Stan took several travel adventures; some favorites were to Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, Canada, Branson, MO. and many more. In her last several years of her life, she became active in the church community at Heritage Methodist Church, as a member of the ladies’ group sharing her faith in God and love for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, loving and caring husband of 56 years, Stanley L. Vanhooser DVM, sister-in-law Helen Blakey (Vanhooser) brothers Richard Dean Thetford, Pete Thetford, Arlen Lee Thetford and a granddaughter, Whitney Renee Henderson. She is survived by her children; son Stan L. Vanhooser II and wife Michelle of Huntsville, TX; daughter Shelley D. Vanhooser of Warden, WA and grandson, Bryan Scott Henderson, and 3 great-grandchildren, Malaki, Oriana and Avery of Warden, WA; her sister Wendy Grubbs (Thetford) and husband Gordon of Graham, TX; brother Ronnie Thetford and his wife Martha of Flour Mound, TX and brother-in-law Bob Blakey, of Fort Worth, TX; brother Robert Carl Thetford of Wichita Falls, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends.
Visitation will be held for friends and family on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Morrison Funeral Home from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM. Graveside service will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery at 2:00 PM under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
