Phyllis A. Walker, age 72, of Moberly, MO, passed away in her home, surrounded by family on October 16, 2022.
Phyllis was born on April 4, 1950, in Madison, WV, to Carl G. and Pearl (Ferrel) Adkins. She graduated from Scott High School, and from West Virginia State Police Academy in 1981, with a degree in law enforcement. In 1982, she moved to Moberly, MO and accepted a position as a Deputy Sherriff in the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department. In 1995, she accepted a position as a Deputy Sherriff in Chariton County, MO.
Phyllis was a member of the Sweet Springs Baptist Church in Huntsville, MO. She was a fantastic homemaker, mother, and wife. She married James H. Walker on June 1, 1968, in Madison WV. Phyllis was an enthusiastic motorcycle rider who was deeply involved in the Good Vibrationz Ladies Charitable Riding Group. She enjoyed riding her Harley-Davidson or one of the other two motorcycles she owned. For many years she assisted her husband with raising and training horses on the family farm in Huntsville.
Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving wife, wonderful mother, and doting grandmother. She defended her beliefs fiercely, but had a ready smile, infectious laugh, and great sense of humor. Her practical jokes were legend in the workplace.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Erika Lee Walker, a brother, Jerry Adkins, and sisters, Jeanette Bell, Maxine Hill, and Susie Thomspon.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Jim, of Moberly, MO, daughters, Kelly Walker, Sioux Falls, SD, Dr. Jaime Walker, Ashland, MO, Betsy Walker, Moberly, MO, son James (Jenna) Walker, Columbia, MO, grandchildren, Zach Bowman, Columbia, MO, Cole Givens, Moberly, MO, Jack Hampshire, Ashland, MO and Asher, Gianna and Briella Walker, Columbia, MO, extended family, and many close friends.
A funeral service celebrating Phyllis’ life has been scheduled for Friday, October 21, 2022, at 11:00 am, at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Jacksonville, MO. Visitation will be held October 20, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 PM at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel.
