Phyllis Mae Waloway, 83, of Marinette passed away July 13, 2025, at Rennes West Health
Center in Peshtigo with her family at her side after a long battle with Parkinson's. She
was born on January 19, 1942, in Menominee, Michigan, to Harry and Christine
(Vandenberg) Haasch.
Phyllis spent her childhood trying to keep up with her eight older siblings enjoying the
many public beaches and parks on First Street in Menominee. She was a 1960
graduate of Menominee High School and married her loving husband, Richard R.
Waloway, of 66 years, just four days after her graduation. They immediately left for
Chicopee, Massachusetts, where Rich was enlisted in the Air Force. They returned
home to the twin cities area to raise their four children and live closer to family.
Phyllis was a devoted wife and mother, always providing a loving home and delicious
meals for her husband and four children. When not attending her children's activities
and sporting events, she enjoyed bowling and playing golf with her friends and sisters
and even had a hole-in-one on #8 at Little River Country Club. She also really looked
forward to family get-togethers, coffee clutching with her sister and nieces, and
shopping trips with her daughters. After her children were older, she worked at Stuarts in
the newly opened Pine Tree Mall and enjoyed working with the younger staff there.
Known as the "cool mom" by her children's friends, Phyllis was always "in-style" and
beautiful, often mistaken as an older sister of her daughters.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Richard Waloway; four children: Justine (Rick)
Braatz, Karla (Mike) Parthie, Cary (Kristi) Waloway, and Keith Waloway, all of Marinette;
seven grandchildren: Allie (Jody) Van Laanen, Kayla (Dakota Eland) Parthie, Casey
(Kyle) Messer, Kelsey (Cody) Mattison, Garrett (Megan Miller) Waloway, Makenzie
(Avery Martin) Villas, Auburn and Avery Waloway; four great grandchildren: Alaina and
Brielle Messer, Everly Van Laanen, and Emersyn Mattison; and many nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers: Harry, Ralph,
Loren and Wayne Haasch; and four sisters: Pearl Nast, Joanne Fritz, Arlene Schick,
and Joyce Krause.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Rennes West Health Center in Peshtigo,
Wisconsin, who took such great care of Phyllis. Also special thanks to her nieces, Gloria
Courtney and Karen Sieth, nephew, Steve Schick, and close childhood friend, Rose
Marie Benisek, whose endless visits, gifts, goodies, and cards meant the world to her.
We also appreciate how much Phyllis's daughter, Karla, did to make her last years of life
as comfortable as possible, you certainly have earned your angel's wings.
A private family-only memorial service will be held at Thielen Funeral Home.
