Pierre Avedissian, age 88, of
Cherry Hill, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Pierre was the beloved husband of Marian for 60 years; a devoted father to Robert (Gina) Avedissian, Nicole Avedissian, Monique (Vatche) Stamboulian, and David Avedissian; and the adoring Pop-Pop to six grandchildren: Ashley, Michael, and Jennifer Stamboulian, and Jake, Samantha, and Jessica Tosh. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Zartarian.
Pierre was born on August 13, 1937, in Beaumont, Marseille, France, to Sarkis and Nevart Avedissian (both survivors of the Armenian Genocide). His mother passed away when Pierre was six years old during World War II. He and his older sister were raised by their father, Sarkis; their loving grandmother, Eva; and other caring relatives. After graduating from high school in Marseille in 1955, Pierre immigrated to the United States at the age of 17, joining his sister, who had arrived a few years earlier.
Over the next decade, Pierre worked diligently to establish himself and pursue the American Dream. He began as a laborer, digging ditches at a construction site, and eventually became a foreman for a home builder on Pennsylvania's Main Line. Soon thereafter, Pierre changed direction and became a hairstylist.
After becoming the manager of a hair salon in Haddonfield, New Jersey, Pierre bought and rehabilitated a neglected building in 1967 at 203 Kings Highway East, Haddonfield, where he started his own business, Pierre de Beaumont. He became widely known as one of the premier hairstylists in the South Jersey area. Countless brides and prom attendees received the latest and greatest hair designs from Pierre over the years. His work was always meticulous, thoughtful, and guided by a keen eye for perfection.
Pierre's life became complete when he met Marian Tashjian at a church dance on February 13, 1965. They got married exactly one year later, on February 13, 1966. Together, Pierre and Marian lived and loved the American Dream. They settled together in the Wexford Leas section of Cherry Hill and found great joy in life's simple pleasures: daily family dinners, occasional fine restaurants, annual vacations, trips to the Jersey Shore, hosting family gatherings, and spending time with friends.
Family was always most important to Pierre. He loved and cherished his wife and children more than anything in the world. Later in life, he showed that same love and affection to his grandchildren.
Hairdressing was only one of Pierre's many talents. He had many interests throughout his life. He was an avid golfer who once scored both an eagle and a hole-in-one in the same game. He was a skilled hunter with a steady hand and good aim, as well as an avid fisherman. He was a wine expert with an impeccable palate. Pierre was especially creative and innovative, and he loved gardening and cooking.
After fully retiring from his hairdressing career in early 2020, Pierre enjoyed spending more time with his family while exploring new interests, particularly the culinary arts and following politics. He was funny, strong-minded, charming, and truly unique in every way.
Pierre was proud of his Armenian, French, and – most of all – American heritage. He spoke and wrote all three languages fluently and was conversant in several others.
Pierre will be forever missed and always in our hearts.
