We are honored to celebrate the life of Pierre (“Pierrot”) Roger Rousset, a beloved father, Pépère, and dear friend to many. Pierre was born in Evreux, France, on December 4, 1935, and left us on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at his home in Bossier City, LA.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home at 2201 Airline Drive, Bossier City, LA, on April 22, 2023, with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m. and services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Officiating the service will be Charlie Andrews.
Pierre’s first memories of his Normandy childhood were living in an occupied France during WWII and playing in rubble piles from bombings. During the eventual liberation by Allied soldiers, Pierre got his first taste of American candy, which appealed to his sweet tooth. As an adolescent, he was charming and athletic, playing soccer and running track all through school. After schooling, he served his obligation in the French Military, serving in Tunisia and as an officer in the French-Algerian War, and then went into the professional world as a procurement agent in France for NATO. After France withdrew from NATO, Pierre made a new start with his American wife in Bossier City, LA, in 1967 and became a proud American citizen in 1971. He continued in the procurement profession after coming to the States, where he worked for the next 28 years at a couple of different companies, ultimately retiring as Procurement Director for Thiokol’s Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant. Not wanting to sit still, he then put his handyman skills into practice and started “Do-All Handyman,” which continued until just a few years ago.
To know Pierre’s true heart, however, one needs to know more than what he did to make a living, one needs to know how he lived. Pierre’s smile was crooked but contagious, and his answers to questions were always a story mixed with a dad joke. His commitment to family was his priority, and he would always provide his devotion and support to assist, teach and applaud them. Pierre’s determination to achieve excellence provided him not only professional success in his career and with his handyman business after retiring, but also cycling success in a career that started in his 60s – winning the Louisiana Sr. Olympics for his age group in his 70s. His gratitude for gestures towards him was always grand, with little acts receiving long appreciation. But what set Pierre apart the most, was his love of living his life – the joy of trout fishing in a cold stream, the first sip of his happy hour drink, the warmth of a fire in his fireplace, the blooms of his peonies, or just sitting on his back porch with a scotch watching the hummingbirds while the sun set over his backyard that he so proudly earned with a life lived well.
Pierre is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Rousset and Renée Petey Rousset, and two of his brothers, Roger Rousset and Norbert Rousset. Left to cherish Pierre’s legacy are his children, Yvon Rousset, Philippe Rousset, Stephen Rousset (Hope) and Nicole Williams (Charlie); grandchildren, Alexandre, Nicolas, Josephine, Arthur, Rodolphe, Victoria, Kathleen (Drew) Meaghan, Zachary, Laura, Natalie, and Rebecca; his brother, Jean-Paul Rousset (Annick); Martha Malone, mother of Stephen and Nicole, who remained a life-long friend; as well as many extended family members and many friends.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Rousset, Craig Rambin, Mark Wilson, John Franklin, Jerry Kaufman, and Herman Nock.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude towards the many friends that brought joy to Pierre’s life and assisted him during the past couple of years with meals, yard work, fishing trips, and happy hours. A special thanks is extended to Mark and April Wilson, Craig and Liz Rambin, Karen Maxwell, and Nona Dailey, all of whom held a special place in Pierre’s life.
Flowers for the service are welcomed, as Pierre loved flowers and was so proud of some he had grown, but if, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made in his name to any of the various Veterans’ and First Responders’ charities for which he was a long-time supporter.
