Pietro Solitro
July 31, 1942 – May 9, 2025
Beloved husband of Angela (nee Maisano) for 56 wonderful years. Loving father of Josephine (Michael) Mangano, Sarah Roberts and Antoinette (Anthony) Solitro-Jennings. Proud and adored grandfather of Anthony (Rachel), Rich (Lauren), Larina, Angela, Gabriella, Evan, Michael, Carmella and great-grandfather of Leonardo Pietro. Predeceased by his dear sister Caterina and parents Filippo and Giuseppina.
Pietro Solitro, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on July 31, 1942, in Castelluzzo, Sicily, Italy, he was the cherished son of the late Filippo and Giuseppina Solitro.
In 1966, Pietro immigrated to the United States, settling in Detroit, Michigan, where he met the love of his life, Angela. They were married shortly after and spent the next 56 years building a life rooted in love, devotion, and family. Together they raised three daughters-Josie, Sarah, and Antoinette-who brought him immense pride and joy. Pietro was a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren and a great-grandfather to one great-grandson, whom he adored deeply.
Pietro worked for the Ford Motor Company for 32 years, always proud of his career and contributions. He could often be found wearing his Ford Motor shirt with pride-a symbol of his strong work ethic and loyalty.
A passionate fan of sports, Pietro especially loved watching car racing, particularly Formula 1 and the Grand Prix. He was an enthusiastic supporter of all the Detroit sports teams and never missed a chance to cheer them on.
Pietro's love for gardening was legendary. From spring through summer, he could often be found tending his lush garden, where he grew tomatoes, basil, squash, eggplant, and especially his beloved cucuzza (zucchini), as well as fig and peach trees. His roses were always a source of beauty and pride. Every plant reflected the care and heart he poured into his garden year after year.
A proud Sicilian, Pietro shared his heritage with everyone he met. He passed down the values, traditions, and customs of his homeland to his children and grandchildren, ensuring that the spirit of Sicily lives on through them.
Pietro had a generous spirit, a quick wit, and a contagious laugh. He loved to bring joy to others and was always ready with a story or a joke. His greatest joy was being surrounded by his family-Angela, his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandson were truly his world.
Pietro was a loyal and true friend to many. He will be remembered for his big heart, unwavering kindness, and the deep love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
