Pilar Godoy Obituary

Published by Forest Lawn - Covina Hills on Aug. 2, 2020.
Pilar Olga Godoy, 81, passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Sunday, August 2, 2020. Meaning "pillar of strength," Pilar's name perfectly embodied her spirit. She dedicated herself to family and friends, constantly providing a source of strength that will be deeply missed. Born October 15, 1938, in the house her father built, Pilar grew up alongside her older sister, Mary, in Los Angeles, California. Her parents, Manuel Fernandez and Maria Avellano, immigrated from a small village in Spain, bringing a strong work ethic and deep family values. Pilar was preceded in death by her parents and sister. In 1957, she graduated from Lincoln High School and was chosen by her classmates as one of the Lancer Ephebians for her leadership and academic success. After graduation, she served as a stenographer for the Los Angeles Board of Public Works. In 1959, she married Albert Simone. Pilar and Albert welcomed a daughter, Jeannine Marie. In 1968, she married Francisco Javier Godoy Jr., with whom she had three children, Francisco Adrian, Marisa Michelle, and Francine Dannielle. She loved her children very much, giving of herself fully to them until the very end. Later in her life, Pilar worked as a Recreation Assistant at the Lincoln Heights Senior Center. She loved working with the community, organizing social events and going on the casino trips. She is survived by her children, Jeannine, Francisco, Marisa, and Francine; her grandchildren, Stephanie, Anthony, Alex, Christian, Sara, Gianni, Zacary, Max, and Nicolas; her great-grandchildren, Kyla, Brandon, Austin, and Liam; her nieces and nephew, and their children. She will be greatly missed by all of her family. A private service will be held Friday, August 28.
