Pauline "Polly" Banks, age 95, passed away October 25, 2024, at her home in the Noah Community surrounded by her children. A native of Coffee County and the oldest of thirteen siblings, she was born on October 28, 1928, to the late Hugh A. and Louise Thurman Sherrill in Manchester, TN.
In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her loving husband of more than 50 years, Lee Banks, on September 25, 1997; her brothers, Tommy Sherrill, R.L. Sherrill and Hugh Sherrill, Jr. and sisters, Deloras Reynolds, Geneva Schuster, Nell Jones, and Debbie Frame. She is survived by her son, Richard Lee (Amy) and daughters, Jane Campbell (Ronnie), Joan Louise DeLisle (Mike) and Iva Jill Banks; six grandchildren, Kelly Rosalia (Jason), Lori Smith, Allison Zokan (Joe), Michael DeLisle (Leigh Anne), Bradley Banks (Laura) and Sarah Fecht (Eric); seven great grandchildren, Phoebe and Amelia Smith, Bailey Rosalia, Isla and Jack Banks, Nora Louise Fecht and Azalea Dove Zokan; sisters, Emma Thornberry, Nora Mantle, Becky Harriman, Brenda Henderson, and Teresa McCullough, and several nieces and nephews.
Polly was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister and left a legacy of faith, love, and devotion to her family. She was a member of the Noah Church of Christ for more than 75 years.
She was known and loved by many in the county for her work for more than 20 years as the office secretary at Manchester Central High School for Joe Frank Patch, where she helped many students and made many friends. She was a member of the Farm Bureau Women's Organization and the Noah F.C.E. Club.
Besides spending time with her family, Polly enjoyed working outside with her beautiful flower and water gardens, and reading novels from the public library in Manchester. She also enjoyed painting and was often inspired by the flowers and landscape of the family farm, "Wild Acres."
She was a sports enthusiast during her high school years and later at sporting events for her children and grandchildren. She was also a loyal University of Tennessee football, University of Tennessee Women's basketball, and Atlanta Braves fan.
The family is very grateful for the help of her loving caretakers and for the visits from neighbors and friends to help make her last years living at home on the farm comfortable and enjoyable.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Manchester Funeral Home with David Elrod officiating. Michael DeLisle, Bradley Banks, Eric Fecht, Joe Zokan, Jay McCullough, and Tim Henderson will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family at the funeral home will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the funeral. There will be a police escort to Concord Cemetery following funeral services.
