Polly Cloud Obituary

Visit the Smith Benton Funeral Home - Benton website to view the full obituary.

Polly Ann Cloud, 88, of Benton, Arkansas, passed away on September 23, 2025. She was born on February 2, 1937, in Benton, Arkansas, to Van and Glennie Zuber.

Polly was a woman of spirit, humor, and determination. She spent her career working in mapping for the Highway Department, where her strong work ethic and attention to detail shone through. But more than her work, it was her family who brought her the greatest joy and pride. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was “MawMaw” or “GiGi,” depending on who you asked, but she answered proudly to both.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Robert Cloud. Together they built a life filled with devotion, respect, and laughter. Polly’s love lives on through her daughters, Connie McLain, Suzanne (Ricky Lee) Melvin, and Stacey Smart; her grandchildren, Robert Lloyd, Ashley (Daniel) Jones, and Kasey (Diana) Smart; her great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Long, Riley Long, Kelsey Long, Abigail Smart, Jackson Smart, Annie Smart, and Caroline Smart; and her great-great-grandchild, Jovie Henderson. She also leaves behind her brother, Troy (Janette) Zuber, along with many other beloved family members and friends.

Polly was preceded in death by her parents, Van and Glennie Zuber, and her grandsons, Bradley Lloyd and Ethan Smart.

Though an eye condition in her later years kept her from some of her favorite pastimes, Polly still found joy and excitement in trips to Oaklawn. She was a true spitfire, quick-witted, outspoken, and always ready with a laugh. Her humor and personality made every gathering brighter, and she never failed to say exactly what she thought.

Visitation will be held Friday, October 3, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, 1647 Salem Road, Benton, Arkansas, 72019. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The BrightFocus Foundation to support research and the search for a cure for macular degeneration, a condition Polly bravely faced in her later years.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Cathcart and the team at Saline Memorial Emergency Care for their compassionate care and dedication during Polly’s final moments.

Polly leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
