Polly Kay Coleman

Polly Kay Coleman went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at the age of 83. She was born to George and Winifred (Langford) Satterwhite on July 15, 1941, in Gorman, Texas. On September 5th, 1964, she married the love of her life, Jake Coleman in Lubbock.

Polly, who was known as Mama to her kids and Grandmama to her beloved grandchildren, lived a life full of love and hope. She knew Jesus as her personal Lord, Savior, and friend, and desired more than anything that her family would do the same. A childhood friend from Andrews, Texas, wound up a neighbor to her grandkids and remembered Polly as someone who always had beautiful prayers. As her family, we all knew that if there was anything we needed, we could take it to Grandmama and she would pray fervently for us until the prayer was answered in one way or another. 

Polly and Jake were always together. Even if it was just a little run to Lubbock to eat at The Plaza or go to a sewing store, Granddad tagged along for the ride! Together, they loved boating, golfing, going on drives, and spending time with their family. They also shared a love for music, and their kids and grandkids fondly remember the days of family singing together as Granddad played the guitar and Grandmama played her cello. They created a family that loves to be together even as everyone has grown older.

Grandmama loved golfing, sewing and quilting, and entertaining others. She enjoyed hosting brunch parties both at home in Ropesville and at the lake, and she often called to talk about what her ladies club was doing or what her book club was reading. Perhaps the way she loved sharing her affection the most was through making the most beautiful quilts. Every child, grandchild, cousin, friend, and more will forever treasure the gorgeous quilts she made. She and Jake often spent weekends playing in golf tournaments with their friends at The Cliffs, and though she would laugh about getting last place, they loved the memories they created. Her granddaughters, whom she called “The Little Girls” or “TLGs” will deeply miss her green Kool-Aid, sewing lessons, and sharing their prayer requests with her. Her favorite grandson, Landon, treasured being the favorite and spending time golfing with her as well as talking with her about his scuba diving and excursions.

Polly bravely fought cancer four times. She was a cancer survivor for more than 25 years and never let defeat or hopelessness creep in even during her most recent illness. She continued to talk about the things she would do and the quilts she would make when she got better. Her faith and hope in the Lord served as a beacon for all of us.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years, Jake; children, Casey Coleman and husband Steve Bolster of Cookville, Texas, Tracy Boeker and husband Lewis of Big Spring, Texas, and Jason and wife Kristi of Ropesville, Texas; brother Fred Satterwhite of Lubbock; and her four precious grandchildren: Landon Boeker of Hurst, Lindsey Boeker (and fiance Garrett Briggs) of Lubbock, Bailey Coleman of Lubbock, and Sydney Coleman of Lubbock. A lifelong dog lover, she also leaves her sweet Raider behind. Those welcoming her into the gates of Heaven include her parents, George and Winnie Satterwhite, her oldest brother Don Satterwhite, her dear sister-in-law Mary Satterwhite, and her beloved dogs – Fritzie and Sophie Grayce.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas. A memorial service to celebrate Polly’s life will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. The service will be livestreamed.
