Sonja Hubbard of Lubbock passed away on March 3, 2026. While the first seasons of Sonja’s life were spent in various states across the country, she found her home in Lubbock, TX, where she built a life of love, service, and friendships.
Sonja’s career was focused on identifying childcare opportunities for those in need. She served many children and families at the YWCA followed by 33 years at South Plains Community Action where she focused on those navigating the CPS system. She was a listening ear to all and treasured opportunities to mentor others with her knowledge and humor.
Sonja was also an active member of the Second Baptist Souljourners Class, where she built lifelong friendships rooted in faith. She passionately supported various nonprofit organizations, ensuring the organization’s vision and practices aligned with her values.
Sonja is survived by the Harkey’s, her Lubbock family by choice, her siblings and extended family. She is also survived by several beloved friends, many who she has known for years and others she considered her sweet serendipitous friends. May we all honor Sonja by continuing her legacy.
A charity special to Sonja’s heart was the Lubbock Meals on Wheels Pet Program, 2304 34th, Lubbock, Texas 79411, https://lubbockmealsonwheels.org/donate-info/
