Portia Kinney, 80, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Kinney was born May 6, 1945, in Port Arthur, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elva Harris Tipps and Russell Tipps and sisters Jackie Goats, Gwyn Carriere and Grace Moye. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dale Kinney; children, Kelli van Gool & husband Jacques, Jennifer Porchey & husband Rob, George J. Polk III & wife Amy; grandchildren, Taylor Moll & husband Nick, Elizabeth Tate Porchey, Wesley Polk, Emerson Polk; great grandchildren, Laura Moll and Lindsey Moll; brother Nolan Tipps & wife Gayle; sister Beckie Simpson & husband Mike; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friend and caretaker Nereida Morales.
Portia grew up in the Port Arthur area where she attended Port Neches Grove High School. She was well-loved, friend to many and cheerleader her whole life. After graduation she moved to Houston and started her family. She raised 3 children and became a top sales associate with BFI Industries. While at BFI she met and married the love of her life, Dale Kinney in 1987. The couple spent the next 38 years together watching their beautiful family grow. Portia spent many years as an interior designer in the Houston area before retiring. Her "love project" was the lake house she and Dale built on Lake McQueeney.
Portia's faith was central in her life. She was a member of Second Baptist Church. She was an avid shopper, often antiquing and bought as much blue and white as she could. She was the life of the party, loved to dance and had a great sense of humor. Her family was her true love and joy of her life. She spent countless days with her 4 grandchildren watching them grow and become fine adults. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
Portia's life will be celebrated Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Second Baptist Church, West Campus. A reception will follow on the church grounds. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan's Purse.
