Potter Brimlow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Diablo Valley Cremation & Funeral Services - Concord on Jan. 3, 2025.
It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Potter Brimlow Jr, a resident of Martinez, California, on January 3, 2025, at the age of 82. Potter, who was known to his family as Rusty, is survived by his siblings and their spouses. John and Barbara Brimlow; Nancy (Brimlow) and Andrew Warren; Linda (Brimlow) and Jerry Bottcher; and David and Debra Brimlow. He is survived by many nieces and nephews who spent special times with him. Potter is predeceased by his parents Potter and Irene Brimlow. Born in Rahway NJ, 1942, he lived his childhood years in Emmaus, PA with our Parents and 4 siblings. Rusty was a wonderful older brother. He watched out for us, as the oldest, and taught us a lot over the years. After our Dad passed away in 1998, he was a devoted son to our mother, managing her estate until she passed away in 2020. Graduating from high school in 1960, he went on to Gettysburg College where he was a proctor for the fraternity he joined and a member of ROTC. Graduating college in 1964, he served in the army eventually running the Officer’s Club in Germany. When finished with his obligation to the army, Potter moved west where he eventually settled in San Francisco, Oakland, and his final home in Martinez. He retired in 2005 after working as a controller for Crown Zellerbach and RAMCO. Potter loved the outdoors. He learned this passion for the outdoors from spending summers with brother John in Wilmington, NY, where our grandmother, my mother's brother, Uncle Jack, and family had 30 acres on Whiteface Mt. This framed his love of nature. As he settled in California, his life was full of adventure, whether it be skiing with his friends, sailing in San Francisco Bay, camping in Yosemite, and backpacking in the wilderness (sometimes with llamas). Visiting him always involved doing something healthy and active. Potter loved his community. He hiked for miles all over the area every day. Potter had great neighbors that he appreciated. He loved to travel and visited many countries. Potter was a problem-solver and loved to take on difficult projects. He helped many of us with projects when he visited, never one to sit around, always willing to help. Our family is deeply grateful for the long friendships he made in CA. Many of his adventures involved these devoted friends who filled his life. As for the family, Potter “Rusty” will be forever missed and will live in our hearts forever. Goodbye Brother, we will see you later A Celebration of life for Potter will be held both on the West Coast and the East Coast in the future
