Prabhjot (Gill) Purohit was born
September 7, 1950, to Sardar Col. (Ret) Balwant Singh Gill & Sardarni Jal Kaur Gill, in Jullandar, Punjab, India. Her early childhood was that of a typical Army Brat, whilst her Father was deployed along the Indo-China borders and it's active war zones. However, her own memories were limited to growing up in Srinagar, Jammu Kashmir, where their family was stationed, whilst her Father was on the active fronts.
She earned a Bachelors degree in Arts from Punjab University and also learned and enjoyed
Painting, Theater, Dancing, competitive ladies Field Hockey. However, her unique
nonconforming traits began to blossom too and it all began with her giving herself her very own new name (from Baljot to Prabhjot, which means the Lord's Light), and she even cut her hair, a religious taboo way back then! But sadly, inaccurate, ill-advised and inadequate Optometry and Eye Glass Prescriptions, beginning in childhood, also initiated her lifelong vision degradation and challenges. But her own curiosity and initiative, as well as her Father's mentoring, sowed seeds, which she then nurtured and the tree of Natural Healing sprouted in her, which lasted her entire life.
Societal objections notwithstanding, she moved away from home at a very young age to Delhi, trained and worked as a Beautician and did assorted clerical office work. During this period she met both, a Spiritual Brother and a Father Figure, with whom both (as well as their families), she instinctively, lovingly and religiously built and maintained very strong and lifelong bonds, which has spanned many generations, times and distances.
Her sister first sponsored and then convinced her to immigrate to the US in 1978, whereupon she quickly and tirelessly restarted working hard, with stints in department stores, office security jobs, to become self sufficient, independent and financially secure, over a short period of time. She then began work at Baxter Travenol in Chicago, starting in the Mail Room, all whilst acquiring skills to become a Para Legal and eventually, the Administrator in the Patent Office at Baxter Travenol.
She met and married Kailash Purohit in 1999 and they began living in a home in Des Plaines, IL, where she managed all his Consulting business' travel and office needs, all whilst becoming a Homemaker par excellence. But after three very severe river floodings between 2004 and 2014, their home was totally condemned and demolished by City authorities and the aging moved to
Lake City, FL, as climate refugees in 2015, whereupon they slowly phased into retirement, tending to their garden, their home and growing old together, just as they had promised one another they would.
Throughout her life, Prabhjot always acquired new and necessary life skills, but the constant was always natural healing, self help and independent living. She read voraciously and strived to gain proficiency in diverse fields such as Homeopathy, Yoga, Touch Healing, Massaging, Meditation, Home Remedies, Natural Cures, Parapsychology, Acupuncture and Acupressure. She favored
books by the Tibetan Monks, Shirley Maclaine, Deepak Chopra, Hindu Mythology and the Sikh Religion. She diligently studied the effects of ultra processing of foods, artificial sweeteners and natural flavor and many additives on human health and often guided those who sought her views.
Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with Dry Macular Degeneration and gradually became vision impaired over the last 15 years of her life, but it never slowed or dampen her spirit for meditation, singing, dancing, yoga, exercise, learning, gardening but most of all, her winning and smiling disposition, kindness towards others and her joy of living. She contracted Covid in 2021, Shingles in 2023 from which she suffered greatly, as her body was not used to chemical interventions and she had never used any antibiotics until then. In early August 2025, inexplicably, she fell ill and was diagnosed with an advanced stage of Peritoneal Carcinomatosis. She opted not to undergo Chemotherapy, as she knew her body the best, and opted for Home Hospice Care on September 26 and peacefully passed on October 9, 2025. In the end she suffered much pain, but she accepted her life journey and her choices and she left for her heavenly abode in total peace.
She leaves behind her husband of 26 years, Kailash Purohit, who will always love and miss her. She is survived by Baljit Dhaliwal, her older sister and two loving nephews, Taranbir and Ramanbir Dhaliwal.
She is also survived by Krishna Gopal Tyagi, her Chosen Spiritual Brother by Affection and his Son Vipin Raghav, as well as her Father Figure, Harkishan (Kusum) Jhaveri's daughter Jharna and son Rajiv. Whilst they survive her, they are truly heartbroken as they bear losing her after losing their own parents.
Prabhjot also leaves behind her Adopted daughter Tara (Riad) Abrahams and three Grandchildren, Conrad, India and Serena Abrahams, all of whom she loved immensely. She also leaves behind Piotr Paduch, her Chosen Spiritual Son by Affection, who misses her greatly. Narinder Chahal and Ewa Pietrucha, her kindred spirits, will also miss losing their loving sister of many, many decades.
All the survivors humbly pray to the Almighty Lord and God to bless their gentle Prabhjot and accept her loving and caring soul into his arms and bless her with eternal rest and his infinite peace.
