Mrs. Prentice J. Massey, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Camelot Leisure Living Nursing Home in Ferriday, Louisiana. Visitation will be at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home in Louisville, Mississippi, on Friday, September 16, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Nowell-Massey Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Mississippi, with Rev. David Clark and Bishop Rev. Gary Howington officiating. Interment will be in Owens Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Massey was born March 1, 1925. She was a loving and caring mother but also an understanding grandmother who will be so greatly missed. She was a member of The Pentecostals of Miss-Lou Church of Ferriday, Louisiana, and she was a homemaker. Mrs. Massey is survived by a daughter, Karen Cloninger Wood of Vidalia, Louisiana; Johnny Cloninger; three sons: James C. Massey and wife, Diane, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Wayne E. Massey and wife, Judy, of Chunky, Mississippi, and Miller "Nicky" Parker, Jr., and wife, Susan, of Meridian, Mississippi. She is also survived by three sisters: Evelyn Culver of Waterford, Mississippi, Mary Belle Sisson of Louisville, Mississippi, and Betty Ruth Sisson of McCool, Mississippi; one brother, J. W. Dempsey and wife, Lottie, also of McCool, Mississippi. Mrs. Massey also has three grandsons: Chris Massey and wife, Stacie, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Erik Shappell of Meridian, Mississippi, and Ed Wood, Jr., and wife, Melissa, of Richland, Mississippi; one granddaughter, Lacie Anders and husband, Patrick, also of Richland, Mississippi; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and two very special sisters-in-law, Hilda Dempsey of Louisville, Mississippi, and Lorene Dempsey of McCool, Mississippi. She is preceded in death by her husband, Everette Davis Massey; her parents, Bell C. and Annie R. Dempsey; her daughter, Shirley Lancaster; her grandson, Dewayne Lancaster; her sister, Myrtice Vowell; and five brothers, Jimmy Troy Dempsey, Norman Harold Dempsey, Joyce Dempsey, Oscar Dempsey, and Henry Grady Dempsey. Pallbearers will be Hank Dempsey, Ralph Dempsey, Ronnie Dempsey, Don Sisson, Jerry Sisson, and Calvin Culber. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dewitt Vowell and Chris Massey. The family would like to express special thanks to the POML Church of Ferriday, Louisiana, and the Bishop Rev. Gary Howington and family for all their prayers and support.
