Prentiss Thompson was born on October 18, 1951 to the late Sam McRae and Annie Sue Thompson in Blenheim, South Carolina. He was called home to rest on March 26, 2025 in Harrisburg, North Carolina.
Prentiss was raised in Brooklyn, New York and grew up navigating the tough streets with resilience and ambition. He refused to let his surroundings define him, focusing on his studies and his love for basketball. His hard work brought him to Rochester Institute of Technology, where he played for the school’s basketball team and built lifelong friendships.
Prentiss was united in holy matrimony to Venice Brown on August 2,1980. From this beautiful union they became the proud parents of two children: Jamaal and Prentiss II.
He began his career as a security guard at General Motors. With dedication and perseverance, he worked his way up into Production Management. His career was a testament to his work ethic, but his true legacy was the kindness and wisdom he shared with everyone he met. He had a playful and gentle spirit that left a lasting impression on those around him.
Prentiss loved to laugh, tell stories, spend time with family and bring people together. Whether he was on the golf course perfecting his swing, traveling to new exciting places by the beach or unwinding with a good cigar. He understood that life was meant to be lived to the fullest with the warmth and enthusiasm that defined him.
Prentiss is predeceased by his beloved wife, Venice. He is survived by his two sons, Jamaal and Prentiss II, his sisters, Victoria and Glenda, and all family and friends whom cherish him dearly.
