Janet West Obituary
July 7, 1940 - February 28, 2023
Prof. Janet Mason West passed on February 28, 2023 at age 82.
Janet was preceded in death by brothers, Willard and David Mason; and by her parents, Willard Mason and Agnes Beals.
She is survived by sons, Michael West (Laurie), David West (Patti), and George Achola (Melissa); daughters, Jami Rost (Kevin), and Carole West; brothers, Franklin Mason (Christina), and James Mason; sister, Vivi Scandone (John); and grandchildren: LaIsha, Jamal, Kylie, Trevor, Tyler, Thomas, Elizabeth, Jack, Johnny, Rachel, Schuyler, and Nathaniel.
A CELEBRATION of LIFE SERVICE will be held on Friday, March 31st, at 4pm at the First Unitarian Church of Omaha, located at 3114 Harney Street, Omaha NE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to NPR, The Southern Poverty Law Center, or the Human Rights Campaign.

She was like my second mother. A great mentor and friend who helped me on so many different levels over the last 18 years of my life. I still cannot fathom the loss of her from our lives. May God Grant bless her soul in heaven. Rest in Peace, Dear Janet!

I will always remember Janet West as an active member and strong supporter of The First Unitarian Church of Omaha. She was a brilliant woman. It was always a pleasure to engage her in conversation about any issue. She was a proud supporter of human rights and workers' rights. We need more Janet Wests in this world. My deepest sympathies to her family.
