Qloun Poon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Whitehurst-McNamara Funeral Service on Feb. 15, 2026.
Qloun Cho Poon, a resident of Madera, CA passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026. Qloun was born in Stockton on March 15, 1928 to Cho Yee (father) and Sam Shee (mother), both from Canton, China. Qloun was one of nine (9) brothers and sisters – Jim, Alice, May, Young, Dick, Mon, Chung, and Rosie. She was the 3rd eldest sister.

Qloun graduated from Stockton High School, graduated from Stockton Jr College, attended UC Berkeley and UCSF, and obtained her degree as an X-ray technician. She worked as an X-Ray technician for 12 years until she met Jim Low, her first husband. They were married in Hanford, CA and lived in Live Oak, CA where they worked their Peach Ranch. After 12 years of marriage, tragedy struck as she lost her first love in 1963 due to a plane accident. Shortly after, she moved to Madera to live with sister Alice.

Early 1970's, Qloun was introduced to Joseph Poon. They dated for a few years and married in 1974. They moved to Joe's house in Castro Valley, CA and lived there for approximately 30 years until they eventually moved to Madera, CA. Qloun was happily married to Joseph for 40 years until his death in 2014.

Qloun subsequently worked as a secretary for CALTRANS, later as a legal secretary for a State Compensation Insurance Fund appeals judge, and lastly as a senior legal secretary for the same Insurance fund prior to her retirement.

Qloun was caring, thoughtful, friendly, and willing to help in a sincere and genuine way to all. She would help Sister Alice with cooking and raising the kids, helped brother Chung with his typing and other secretarial duties, and helped out at the apricot ranch. She was the "Auntie" to many generations of nephews and nieces, always attending family events. She was very generous and gracious with her time and home. She was fully devoted to her husband and family with all of her heart.

Qloun's favorite hobby was to travel around the world with family and friends. Some of her travels included trips to China, South America, Europe, Russia, Australia, and Egypt.

Qloun is survived by sister May, brother Chung, sister in laws Nellie and Susan, numerous nephews, nieces, grand nieces, grand nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Her extended families wishes to thank Saint Mary's hospice, the Drs and staff at Kaiser Permanente, and caretakers Lourdes, Helen, and especially Odette Olvera and family for their kind and compassionate care.

Qloun was DEEPLY loved and will be missed by all.
