Rachel McClure Steele, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024. Rachel was born on December 30, 1934, in Cabarrus County to the late Carl and Viola McClure.
Rachel's greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy; her parents, Carl & Viola McClure; and her brother, Calvin. She is survived; her children, Sheila Hinson Howell & her husband Joe, Gary Dale Hinson & his wife Nydia, Tony Hinson & his wife Kelly, and Crystal Steele Blackwelder & her husband Chris; her grandchildren, Chrissy Howell, Brian Howell, Summer Blackwelder, and Marie Norat; her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce & Larry Norris and a number of nieces and nephews.
She retired from UNC Charlotte in 1997, after also working at Kayser-Roth Hosiery Mill and RHA Howell Center. A member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Rachel enjoyed working with children and youth, sharing her faith and warmth. She was known for her delicious cakes and cherished Christmas dinners, lovingly prepared for her family.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at 1:30pm-2:45pm. The funeral service will begin at 3 pm on Sunday, August 4, 2024 in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Pastor Brandon Gray and son-in-law Joe Howell. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
