A memorial service for Rae Nell Gibson will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2201 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
Rae Gibson turned 80 on January 6, 2026, and she told everyone! Rae was born in Welch, West Virginia, on January 6, 1946. She passed away in Shreveport on Monday, February 2, 2026, due to complications following an accidental fall.
She was called many names during her life: daughter, sister, wife, mother, Granny, teacher, reader, rum cake baker, telephone operator, dog whisperer, and friend. Granny was the name she loved best.
Rae attended school in West Virginia until she was 10 years old, then the family moved to Bossier City, Louisiana. She attended Rusheon Junior High and Bossier High School, where she graduated in 1964. After she graduated, she began her first career at the telephone company, starting as a telephone operator and moving up to other positions. She retired from the phone company, but retirement was not for Rae. She started taking classes at Bossier City Community College and graduated with honors. She continued her education at Louisiana State University-Shreveport, where she majored in Elementary Education and graduated with honors ten days before her 50th birthday. She taught 5th grade at Central Park Elementary in Bossier Parish for ten years. She retired from teaching in 2006. She loved telling people that she retired twice and that was it.
Rae Gibson loved retirement. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, baking and cooking for family and friends, traveling to visit her family, shopping, decorating for holidays, eating out, and playing games with her sister Nancy, who was her best friend always. Rae loved all dogs! She befriended neighborhood dogs, family members' dogs, stray dogs - all dogs. Rae will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, strength, and gentle spirit will remain with us always.
Rae was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Viola Caperton; brothers, Kenneth Caperton and Thomas Caperton; son, Sean Conner; husband, Bob Gibson; and her beloved dog, Charlie.
She is survived by her brother, Frank Caperton; niece, Callie Caperton, and nephew, Bob Caperton (Chattanooga, TN); sister, Nancy Caperton (Bossier City, LA); daughters, Lisa Taylor and husband, Bobby Taylor (Minden, LA); and Robin Hagler (Knoxville, TN). She is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren aplenty. Many friends and family also mourn the loss of Rae.
The family requests that donations be made to Ninna’s Road to Rescue via their link at roadtorescuela.org in lieu of flowers to honor Rae’s love of dogs.
