Raju Koshy was born on November 15, 1942 to late Mr. K.A. Koshy (passed away in 1943) and
late Mrs. Mariamma Koshy (passed away in 1952) in Elanthoor (Koiekkalathu Vadakethil
House), Kerala, India. He was the youngest of 6 children (late Mrs. Mary Cherian, late Rev. K.A.
Abraham, late Mrs. Thankamma Pillay, Mrs. Lizzy Thomas, and Mrs. Ponnamma John).
In 1962, Raju moved to Bombay for employment. He graduated from a 4-year engineering
course at Larsen & Toubro in 1966. That year, he also met and fell in love with Annamma
(Kunjumol). On February 3, 1972, they were married at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Church, Santa
Cruz, Bombay. In 1976, they immigrated to Houston and became one of the founding members
of the Mar Thoma Church in Houston, Texas. He was devoted to God, family, fellowship, and the
growth and advancement of the church. He served in many roles, including the Land Finding
Committee, Church Building Committee, and as Area Committee Member. He also served as
Sound System Operator for over 25 years, even managing and transporting a mobile mic
system prior to the church building construction. He regularly participated in church activities,
including the yearly Christmas caroling group to raise funds for the church building. In addition
to Trinity Sports and playing soccer and volleyball at church, he also found great enjoyment in
the Kerala Sports & Arts Club (KSAC), where he served as treasurer and chairman for many
years. He also enjoyed watching various sports, and especially enjoyed rooting for Houston
teams.
Raju was smart, witty, and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was very resourceful and loved
working with his hands. He made sure to keep close contact with family members, both near
and far. He was a loyal friend and always had a ready smile on his face.
In August 2012, Raju joined Kunjumol in retirement and enjoyed taking care of their
grandchildren. He lived simply and was the rock on which his family was built on. Raju was a
loving father to his two daughters, Reji and Reny, playing a crucial role in their lives. He gave
generously of whatever he had to his family and extended family. Spending quality time, eating
meals together, and daily family prayer were regular practices in their home. He was a loving
husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, caring brother, cousin, and friend. He was
well-respected for his love for the Lord and his family.
Raju is survived by his wife Kunjumol, eldest daughter Reji, son-in-law Viju, grandsons Nathan
and Daniel; youngest daughter Reny, son-in law Ajay, grandchildren Jayden, Kayla, and
Michael. Raju's passing will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him. We are grateful
to God for his life and the impact that he has had on all of us. We are comforted knowing he's
with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
