It is with a full, but heavy heart that we share that Ralph Eugene Altman of Warner Robins passed away December 2, 2023. Ralph was a devoted and loving husband, proud and encouraging Father, and simply the best “Pop” that any grandchild could ask for.
Ralph was born on October 21, 1957, to Thomas Richard Altman and Myrtle Mae Muller Altman in Redlands, California. After graduating high school in Utah, Ralph moved with his parents to Warner Robins, Georgia where he met his wife-to-be Judy Smith in 1977. They were wed in September 1980 and happily married for more than 43 years, rearing three sons: Jared, Joshua, and Jonathan.
Ralph was a gifted and dedicated craftsman, applying his trade as a dental technician for 45 years.
Ralph loved to play sports (softball and basketball were his favorites) and passed this love along to his sons, spending countless hours shooting baskets and playing catch. He took great pride in watching his boys play and rarely missed a ballgame. Board game nights and get-togethers with friends were a favorite pastime. The Fourth of July beach trips were an annual tradition and provided many enduring memories for his entire family. In the last few years, the highlight of his life was spending time with his granddaughters playing games, making breakfast, and running around in the backyard.
Ralph was the most selfless man we have ever known, constantly putting the needs of his family, friends, and others ahead of his own. He served for many years at Green Acres Baptist Church, and later at Second Baptist Church, volunteering in many capacities including as a deacon, bus ministry driver, and children’s church volunteer.
It is impossible to overstate the positivity and kindness that Ralph showed throughout his life. His kind, caring, tender-hearted nature drew people to him. He always had a word of encouragement, smile, or his classic “double thumbs up” for everyone, no matter the circumstances. All the boys’ friends were welcomed into the home and made to feel as family.
He was a great man. We were all blessed to know and love him, and we will miss him and his hugs every day.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife of 43 years, Judy Altman; sons Jared Altman (Kelly); Joshua Altman (Andrea); and Jonathan Altman; parents Tom and Myrtle Altman; grandchildren Olivia Altman, Everly Altman, Amelia Altman, Theodore “Teddy” Altman and Baby Boy Altman (arriving in April 2024), and brother Gary Altman (Marylin). Along with many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other loved ones.
Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023, followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm. Both events will be held at McCullough Funeral Home at 417 South Houston Lake Road, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in Ralph’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org), of which Ralph was a consistent supporter.
