Ralph Barry was born on September 21, 1932, to Orville and Olga (Johnson) Barry on the Barry Farm in Allen Township. Ralph graduated from Woodbine High School in 1950. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington. Ralph met Jeanelle Peterson while he was there and the couple married September 9, 1955, in Seattle, Washington. They lived in the Seattle area for a couple of years before returning to Woodbine to farm. In 1999, they built their house in Woodbine.
Ralph was a member of the Omaha Gospel Tabernacle, the Christ Community Church and most recently the First Christian Church in Woodbine. He was also a member of Kiwanis and the Booster Club. He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball and basketball, growing watermelons and pumpkins and playing shuffleboard. The couple enjoyed going on cruises and trips to the Ozarks. They also enjoyed wintering in Texas for 10 years.
Ralph died on July 12, 2022, at Azria Health Rose Vista Nursing Home at the age of 89 years, nine months and 21 days.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanelle; and siblings, Eunice Gray, Virginia Donn and Leo Barry. He is survived by six children, Cindy and her husband Bill Cawthra of Max, Nebraska, Mo Barry and his wife Shari of Woodbine, Iowa, Jerome Barry and his wife Chelsa of Lincoln, Nebraska, Cindra Hawkinson of Seattle, Washington, Kendall Barry of Woodbine, Iowa and Shona Nelson of Decatur, Nebraska; AFS son, Arne Dahl and his wife Synnove of Norway; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
