Ralph Bush Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 29, 2024.
Herbert Ralph Bush Jr., affectionately known as Ralph, passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 5:30 pm in Sarasota, Florida. Born to Herbert Ralph Bush Sr. and Pauline Bush in Tidioute, Pennsylvania, Ralph spent his early years in the Vandergrift, PA area, where he developed the work ethic and resilience that would define his life.
Ralph dedicated 26 years to the Elliot Company in Jeannette, PA, before relocating with his beloved wife, Nancy M. Bush, to Tidioute, PA, in 1987. There, he took on the role of postmaster for West Hickory, PA. Following his retirement, Ralph and Nancy moved to Sarasota, Florida, in 1998, where they resided until his passing. Their 43 years together were marked by unwavering love and companionship, shared adventures, and family gatherings that Ralph cherished.
A proud veteran, Ralph served with honor and courage in the Korean War, where he endured time as a prisoner of war and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. His experiences shaped his life, and he found camaraderie in a group of ex-POWs in Florida, whose friendship and shared history brought him comfort and understanding.
Ralph was also an active member of the Masonic Order and proudly participated in their flag brigade, known as the "Tall Cedars." His commitment to honor and service was evident in all he did.
Ralph is survived by his six children from his previous marriage: Lynda Berenbrok, Karen Bush DeCarlo, Kenneth Bush (wife Janis), Connie Yelenic (husband Jimmy), Janice Niklaus (husband Kevin), and Elizabeth Perone. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 11 great-grandchildren. Ralph was also a beloved stepfather to Nancy's children, John Heltion (wife Linda), Charles Heltion (wife Joan), Nanci Jo Allen (husband Chris), Phyllis Davis, and a cherished step-grandfather to Benjamin Davis. John Heltion's three children further enriched Ralph's extended family, who will carry on his legacy.
Ralph's legacy is one of strength, devotion, and love-a life marked by service to his family, country, and community. His presence will be profoundly missed, yet his memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.

My mother grew up with Ralph. Our families were friends forever. I knew him all my life. There were many wonderful memories from my childhood of times spent with his kids at the cabin in Tidioute. He was such a good person with a huge heart. Rest in peace Ralph.
