Ralph Firmenich Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Silverton Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Toms River on Aug. 25, 2025.
Ralph Herbert Firmenich (1957–2025)

Ralph Herbert Firmenich, a man who lived life in the fast lane with a heart as big as a V8, passed away on August 24, 2025, in Brick, NJ, at the age of 68. Born on January 3, 1957, in Irvington, NJ, Ralph was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose passion for life left tire tracks on the hearts of all who knew him.

Ralph is survived by his beloved wife, Janet Firmenich, his steadfast partner through every twist and turn. His legacy continues through his sons: Karl Firmenich and his children Ariana and Gabriel; Samuel Firmenich, his wife Kristen, and their daughter Kayla; and Alexander Firmenich, his wife Emily, and their sons Derek and Nolan. His stepsons, Paul Huszar, his wife Ann Marie, and their children Carter and Brielle, as well as Glen Huszar, also carry forward his spirit. Together, they were Ralph's crew, always ready to cheer him on or hand him a wrench when life got tricky.

A Freemason out of Livingston Lodge #11, graduate of Parsippany Hills HS (and member of the rifle team) who also studied engineering at NJIT, Ralph built a career as varied as the classic cars he adored, working at Ohaus Scale, Lockheed Electronics, Overnite Transportation, and UPS Freight. Each role showcased his sharp mind and relentless work ethic, but his true love was reserved for the roar of engines and the open road. Ralph was a walking encyclopedia of motorsports and automotive history, able to recount the specs of a '69 Dodge Super Bee or the evolution of the Harley-Davidson with equal enthusiasm. His garage was a sanctuary, his toolbox a treasure chest.

When he wasn't under the hood or debating the merits of carburetors versus fuel injection, Ralph could be found cruising the streets of Brick on his scooter with his furry co-pilot, Freddie. Their daily walks were legendary-less a stroll, more a victory lap, with stops to swap stories and share laughs with neighbors. Ralph had a knack for turning strangers into friends, his warmth as reliable as a well-tuned engine.

Loving, intelligent, courageous-these were the gears that drove Ralph. He loved his family fiercely, pouring his heart into every moment shared. His intelligence wasn't just technical; it was the kind that solved problems, built connections, and saw the beauty in a perfectly timed gear shift. And his courage? It shone in how he faced life's challenges with a sly grin and a plan to keep moving forward. Ralph didn't just live; he burned rubber, reminding us to chase our passions with full throttle.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to honor Ralph by donating to Shriners Children's at www.shrinerschildrens.org. A celebration of his life will be held at 10am on September 4th at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home in Toms River, NJ, where tales of Ralph's adventures will rev up the room.

Rest easy, Ralph. You've crossed the finish line, leaving a legacy that'll keep racing on forever.
