Ralph L. Helfinstine Sr.

Ralph L. Helfinstine, Sr., age 95 of Hillsboro, passed away early Thursday October 12, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born September 5, 1928 in Dayton, the son of the late Leroy and Ethel (Barnhart) Helfinstine. Ralph was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and retired from the City of Dayton after thirty years of service. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He is survived by two sons, Richard Dennis (Robert Peelle) Helfinstine of Wilmington, and Ralph LeRoy Jr. (Ann Marie) Helfinstine of Centerville; four grandchildren, Jason (Aubrey) Helfinstine, Christopher Johnson, Kelly (Adam Willey) Johnson and Ashley (Brandon) Link; and seven great grandchildren, Claire, Macy, Ryder, Austin, Madison, Matthew, and Raelyn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-seven years, Margaret J. (Peggy) Helfinstine, on June 18, 2023; a son, Randy Alan Helfinstine; a sister, Carma Shieman; and a brother, Melvin Helfinstine. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday October 19, 2023 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Leo Kuhn will officiate. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.
