Ralph Arthur "Art" Mason, 81, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Pleasant View Lutheran Home in Ottawa.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa with Rev. Seamus Enright, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Grand Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, and one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Art was born on February 22, 1941 in Ottawa, to Ralph and Mildred (Locke) Mason. Youngest of six siblings. He Graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1959. Played center on the OHS football team. Attended the University of Illinois and LaSalle-Peru-Oglesby Junior College. He married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Meling, on December 30, 1962. Art was a lifelong farmer, starting with a few hundred acres, a handful of livestock, and building this small family farm into a thriving and successful business. He was a member of the LaSalle County Farm Bureau Board, LaSalle County Pork Producers, Grand Ridge Grade School Board of Education, and First United Methodist Church. He also won awards for Outstanding Young Farmer from the Ottawa Jaycee's and the LaSalle County Farm Bureau Lifetime Achievement award. Art loved farming and the outdoors, his wife, children, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his four children, Leanne (Jim) Dammann, of Watervliet, MI, Matthew (Laura) Mason, of Ottawa, Mark (Diane) Mason, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, Joe (Jan) Mason, of Nixa, MO; nine grandchildren, Dan (Sarah) Roesler, Jon Roesler, Anna (Luis) Ortiz, Sarah Mason, Tess Mason, Justus Mason, Julie Mason, Josh Mason, Ethan Mason; five great-grandchildren, Grant Roesler, Cohen Roesler, Sadie Roesler, Hayes Roesler, Ezra Ortiz; and a sister, Ardie Baroni, of Hinsdale.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria; three brothers, Bill, Isaac, and Joe Mason; and a sister, Eunice Schultz.
Pallbearers will be Dan Roesler, Jon Roesler, Josh Mason, Justus Mason, Ethan Mason, and Luis Ortiz.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or the Grand Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
