Ralph Smith Obituary

RALPH (ROSIE, JERRY) JEROME SMITH
August 3, 1937 ˜ October 28, 2024

Ralph Jerome Smith, aged 87, passed away on Oct. 28, 2024, in Vancouver, WA. Born on Aug. 3, 1937, Ralph, affectionately known by many as Rosie or Jerry, was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his time with his family.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Pam Smith; daughter, Darsie Slawson (Pat); son, Jason Smith (Stephanie); grandchildren, Justin Smith, Tayler Rounsley (Jonah), Grady Smith, and Jacob Slawson (Katrina); great-granddaughters, Millie and Lyla Smith; and his sister, Jane Neder. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Willanna Smith; and his sister, Nancy Smith.
Raised in Vancouver, Ralph attended Fruit Valley Primary School and graduated from Fort Vancouver High School. He began his career working for the railroad before transitioning to sales, where he spent the majority of his career at Standard Building Materials, establishing himself as a remarkable salesman within the building industry.
Ralph served honorably in the Army for two years, where he embraced the discipline and camaraderie that military life offered.
A man of many interests, Ralph was an avid fisherman, often found fishing locally with his close friends. He also enjoyed garage sailing, cooking, and bread baking, hobbies that he loved sharing with his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Ralph’s memory and legacy. He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated family man with a passion for life and a knack for making lasting connections. His warmth and generosity touched many lives, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

I am one of Rosie's friends from the Wednesday morning Fishing Tackle group.

This has come as a shock to most of us, as Rosie was a piece of Duct tape that held this group together.

We would go fishing every Spring down at Garabaldi (coordinated by Art Cesciliani) and I ALWAYS could count on Rosie to give each of us grief. Mostof the time it was me. Either your fish was too small or not the right kind...it didn't matter. That said, I loved it. It was the type of banter you hear with typical fishing stories.

He was such a kind hearted guy and helped all of us when his friend (Vern Dollar...another member of the Wednesday breakfast group) had passed away.

Please let us know when his service will be? We would like to help his sendoff to the fishing tackle heaven he is going to.

RIP...Rosie. RIP.

My papa Rosie was the definition of family man. The definition of being a man in general. Soft when needed. But hard when called for. Everything I know about being a man came from him. He left our family and with the skills he to wither any storm. He really meant so much to me. My true best friend. I love you papa. Rest easy knowing I'm ok.
