Ralph Salm

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ralph Salm, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, age 96 of Weston, Florida.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa (Peter) Fishman, his son Alex (Caryn) Salm, and his four grandchildren; Garrett and Chelsea, Ari, Nicole and Jordyn, and great grandchild Levi.
Born in a small town in Germany called Schweich. He was the son of Fanny and Alex Salm and had two siblings, Gertrude and Irwin. In 1938 his family had to flee Germany. Little Ralph was brought to a canal and told to swim across and made his way to Genua Italy. He took a ship named Conte di Savoia with his father from Naples, Italy to New York at the age of 11.
As years went on, he went to City College of NY. He earned an electrical engineering degree. He was then drafted into the army 1951-1953. He got back from the army when he was 25 and worked as an engineer for 14 years. At the age of 30, he met the love of his life, Gloria.
By using his engineering degree and business skills, he opened his own business Bergen Office Products which he built into a very successful business.
Ralph had many interests which included sports, especially baseball. He played semi- pro ball, and his claim to fame was catching for Whitey Ford. In his later years he also became a distinguished bridge player.
He was very fortunate to live a very long, healthy life of 96 years.
