Remembering Ralph Maynard Sturges Jr.

November 19th, 1940 – December 13th, 2025

Ralph Maynard Sturges Jr., known to us simply as Ralph or Doc, passed away on December 13th, 2025 in Nashville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Maynard Sturges Sr. and Helen Schweitzer Daniel, and his wife, Bonnie J. Sturges, as well as their daughter, Paige Veronica Sturges. We picture them welcoming him with the same warmth he always showed here.

Ralph's love lives on through his children: Tia Fulks, Ralph "Trey" (Gena) Sturges III, and Sonya (Joseph) Cesnik. He was proud to be "Pop" to his grandchildren; Mark Allen (Suzie) Fulks Jr., Bonnie Paige (Michael) Byers, Rachelle Marie Van Meter, Olivia Grace Cesnik, Anna Claire Cesnik, Ashley Brooke (Jaymie) Stafford, Natalie Eva Sturges, Nicholas Jackson Sturges; great-grandchildren, Jackson Wallace Fulks, Helaina Paige Byers and Saylor Jordan Stafford. His brother, Larry (Mary) Sturges, also carries forward their shared memories.

Born in Shreveport, LA, where he spent his early years attending grade school and then later moved with his family to Florence, AL where he attended high school. In 1963, Ralph entered United States Army, rising to 1st LT O-2 at Ft. Benning, GA. He served with steady commitment, always referring to that time as a lesson in duty and teamwork. Ralph earned his bachelor's degree from Florence State University and his doctorate in Pharmacy from Auburn University, AL graduating in 1967, a point of pride he mentioned often. Auburn football Saturdays were steady fixtures in his calendar, no matter where he was.

Ralph was a devoted husband, a great father, and a wonderful Pop. He was an Eagle Scout, the second in four consecutive generations. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Bonnie, leather and wood working, and caring for his yard with almost ritual devotion. His patriotism and Auburn spirit were unshakeable.

Those close to him knew a man who was loyal, generous, supportive, and hardworking. He showed up, lent a hand, and stayed until the job-and the conversation-were finished.

We will remember his spirit and keep telling his stories at family tables and backyard gatherings. We miss him dearly, and we will carry his steady love forward, just as he taught us.
