Ramey “Ray” E. Baker, Sr., 76, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
A gifted musician and songwriter, Ramey’s love of music shaped much of his life. In his younger years, his band, The Herd, would often open for legendary performers like Tina Turner and Michael McDonald. He also toured the U.S. and Germany playing guitar for Sammy Tippett Ministries.
After graduating from Hannibal LaGrange University, Ramey attended Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary majoring in Music Ministries. Here he deepened his musical abilities, his passion for the Bible and the teachings of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Ramey spent many years fixing cars, specializing in autobody repairs and painting. His craftsmanship and dedication earned him a reputation for excellence.
Ramey was an avid and successful deer hunter. He often used his time in the woods to pray, reflect and appreciate the beauty of nature. His archery skills kept the freezer full and food on the table.
Those who knew Ramey will remember his generosity, his quick wit, and his ability to make people laugh. His caring nature led him to go out of his way to help others.
Ramey was preceded in death by his father, Roscoe Earl Baker; his mother, Thelma Pauline Baker; and his brother John (Carrie) Guy Baker.
He is survived by his sisters, Earline (Charles) Lewis, and Faye (Jerry) Wiles; his children, Tina Baker, Ramey (Sara) Baker, Jr., and Jonathan (Elise) Baker; his grandchildren, Lauren Wilson, David (Carol Ann) Baker, and Phillip Baker; and great-granddaughter, Blakely Wilson.
