Ramon Carroll Hoots passed away December 26th, 2025 at the age of 94. Ramon lived a life of contentment filled with simple pleasures and time spent with family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. As the last of his generation in his family, he was also a father figure to his many nieces, nephews and extended family. Ramon was blessed with a 70 year courtship with his wife, Madeline. They led a life filled with laughter and late night card games while raising their two sons, faithfully supporting the church, and visiting with friends and family.

After losing Madeline in 2021, Ramon lived independently surrounded by neighbors and family. He was most recently supported by Rita, Rodney and Brenda, loving caregivers who became his family while allowing him to remain in his home. Ramon also reconnected with his Baptist roots by joining Ardmore Baptist Church. He became a standing member of row five and attending church on Sunday became a highlight of his week. Ramon valued faith and his relationship with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior throughout his life.

Ramon will be lovingly remembered as quiet, kind, loyal and unassuming; a kid at heart. His good-natured spirit and devotion to his family will be greatly missed.

Ramon was born on June 13, 1931 in Winston-Salem, NC to Ezra and Elma Hoots, the third of three children. He married the love of his life, Madeline Eller, on August 15, 1951. Ramon graduated from Wake Forest University with an accounting degree just after the birth of his first son in 1953. He worked briefly for the family business, Hoots Motor Company, before starting his 36 year career with Piedmont Airlines where he managed the payroll and benefits cost accounting groups. He also managed the Piedmont Credit Union in its formative years and continued to serve on its board of directors for over 25 years, eventually participating in emeritus status. After the merger of Piedmont and USAir in 1989, a youthful Ramon enjoyed an extended early retirement for another 36 years. He stayed busy with church financial roles at Loves United Methodist Church, managing family rental properties, and spending time visiting and vacationing with his two sons and their families. Ramon was able to build endearing relationships with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a unique gift they will cherish forever.

Ramon is survived by his sons Ron (Fran) of Cleveland, OH and Steve (Laurie) of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren Lauren (Rob) Chaney, Logan Hoots, Carter (Jordan) Hoots, Matt Hoots and Kathryn Hoots; his great-grandchildren Emma, Nolan and Harris and numerous cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Following a private graveside service, a memorial service will be held Saturday, January 3rd at 2:00 pm at Ardmore Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Visitation will be held Friday, January 2nd from 7-9 pm at Salem Funeral and Cremation Services, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem.
