Ramona Cecelia James, age 95, of Mankato, died on July 7, 2025 at Mankato Lodge Senior Living surrounded by family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00a.m on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Saints Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one and a half hours prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Saints Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church, Mankato.
Ramona (Mona) was born on March 20, 1930 in Mankato to Claus and Anna Johnson. She graduated from Loyola High School in 1948 where she met and married the love of her life, Creighton (Corky) James. Mona and Corky enjoyed extensive travels together that took them to all 50 states, 7 European countries, Canada, and Mexico.
Mona worked at Randall’s formerly Madson’s Valu Center for 22 years, retiring as a department manager. She was actively involved in volunteer work at her church and with her Hilltop neighbors. In her leisure time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, putting together puzzles, and completing crosswords. Mona also had a competitive spirit and reveled in playing cards, bowling, and golfing. She even had a hole in one!
Mona is survived by six children, Daniel (Nadiya) James, Susan (Daniel) Cahow, Douglas (Karen) James, Gregory James, Thomas (Mary) James, and Timothy (Heidi) James; eleven grandchildren, Monique (Brandon) Mitchell, Trudy James (Glenn Chichenoff), Nick Shydenko, Lukas James, , Leah Cahow, Colton (Gabrielle) Cahow, Cory (Angie) James, Ashley (John) Katelhut, Elizabeth James, Taylor (Chloe) James, and Kelli James (fiancé Gabriel Struchen) and 10 great- grandchildren; Ryker Mitchell, Olivia Chichenoff, Carter James, Hannah James, Connor Katelhut, Riley Katelhut, Jordan Katelhut, Gracelyn Katelhut, Lincoln James, and Morgan James; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
Mona is preceded in death by her husband, her infant son, David, parents, four sisters; Lucille, Genevieve, Joyce, Juanita, and two brothers; John and Robert.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Mankato Lodge Senior Living, St. Croix Hospice, the doctors and nurses at Mankato Clinic and Mayo Health Systems for the compassionate care she received.
