Ramona Joyce Johnson
1936 - 2025
Ramona Joyce (Norberg) Johnson, of Deer River, Minnesota, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Ramona was born to Fred and Agda Norberg, on August 8, 1936, in
Superior, Wisconsin. She resided on the family farm in Dewey, Wisconsin, until the family moved to the Riverside neighborhood of Duluth, so that her father, Fred could be closer to his job as a carpenter/patternmaker at the U.S. Steel Wire Mill in Gary-New Duluth. She was the youngest of four children, the others being Ernie, Lois and Eunice.
She attended school in Duluth, graduating from Denfeld High School in 1958. During high school, she worked as a school secretary at the former Riverside and Fairmont elementary schools. After high school, Ramona worked at the Otis McGee Gustafson Insurance agency and later at the Radford Company in West Duluth.
On July 13, 1963, Ramona was married to Walter Allan Johnson at her home church, the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle and where she remained an active member in the various lady's circles. They moved to the Kenwood neighborhood of Duluth, where she took her new job as a homemaker very seriously. They lovingly raised three children, Rebecca (Becky). Jonathan (Jon) and James (Jim). She served several years as president of the Kenwood T.O.P.S. Club (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and also served a term on the school board at St. Jean's School in West End.
In 1991, when Walter retired, they moved to Cohasset, Minnesota, where they bought a farmstead on the Mississippi River that they remodeled into their retirement home. Ramona and Walter became members of the Full Gospel Church in
Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
In 2010, when her son Jim got married, Ramona moved to Comstock Court in Deer River Minnesota, and after a brief illness, moved across the street to Essentia Homestead Nursing home, where she was very busy in all the daily activities and Bible Study. She enjoyed putting together puzzles and especially playing her favorite game, Rummikub, which she played almost every day. She will be remembered by the many she encountered as a very kind, loving and generous soul.
She was preceded in Death by her parents Fred and Agda Norberg; brother Ernie (Christine) Norberg; sisters Lois (Arthur) Jacobson and Eunice (Grant) Peers and her husband Walter.
Ramona is survived by her children Rebecca (Keith) Semmler of Jacobson, Minnesota, Jonathan of Lehighton, Pennsylvania and James (Gina) of Cohasset Minnesota; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
