Randa Waalkes, a cherished nurse, loving mother and devoted wife, passed away on Jan. 31, 2025, at the age of 75.
Randa's journey began on Aug. 17, 1949, when she was born to Howard and Beulah Groves. Growing up in Paragould, Randa's passion for helping others led her to graduate from Paragould High School and further her education at St. John's Mercy School of Nursing.
Randa started her career with a heart full of ambition, first working in local hospitals and doctors' offices. Her dedication to the wellbeing of her community culminated in her role as a beloved school nurse at Bellerive Elementary School. Her nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless children, fostering a sense of care that extended far beyond the walls of the school.
She found immense joy in spending time with her beloved family and friends. She was an avid sports fan, passionately cheering for her favorite teams, especially during college football season (Mizzou and Arkansas) and her beloved Kansas City Chiefs. Those who knew Randa were often graced by her infectious laughter and warmth.
Randa is survived by her devoted husband, Charlie Waalkes; her treasured children, Tracy, Todd and Kent Waalkes; and her cousins, Karen Duvall and Shelia Harrison. Randa also leaves behind many loving friends and extended family members, including the Muller, Maddox, Carroll, Bokal and Heesch families, who will forever carry her memory close to their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Beulah Groves and her in-laws, Ralph and Audrey Waalkes, and Sandy Muller.
As we remember Randa Waalkes, let us celebrate the beautiful devotion to family and community. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of all that she touched.
