Randall Hartman Obituary

Randall Roger "Randy" Hartman

October 19, 1951 - August 5, 2025

Randall Roger "Randy" Hartman, 73, of Hudson, formerly of La Porte City, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home from complications of Parkinson's Disease. He was born on October 19, 1951, in Waterloo, the son of Roger and Martha Johnston Hartman. Randy was a 1970 graduate of Waterloo West High School and attended Hawkeye Community College.

He married Cynthia Rapp on August 14, 1971, at the First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

He worked at John Deere Co. for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City.

Randy took great delight in camping trips with his family. He also had a passion for raising a variety of animals and gardening. One of Randy's prized possessions was his vintage John Deere tractor, which he was meticulously working on restoring. Known for his stubbornness and sense of humor, he created unique and imaginative nicknames for his nieces and nephews. Randy took special pride in teaching his grandson, Michael, how to drive his beloved red truck. His three daughters, equally capable and resourceful, learned to be "handy," since Randy had no sons to impart these lessons to.

He is survived by his wife, Cindi, of Hudson; two daughters, Heather Hartman-Long (Rob Long), of Waterloo, Tiffani Ingram, of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Rylie, Caden, Michael and Paige; a brother, Russell (Lynette) Hartman, of La Porte City; a sister, Rhonda (Charles Geadelmann) Hartman, of Edina, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Brooke Hartman; his parents; and a brother, Rodney Hartman.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City, with inurnment at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2025, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave. Waterloo, Iowa 50701, and also the hour before the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
