Randall D. "Randy" Piland, 72, died May 7, 2025, at his home in Hoisington, surrounded by his family. He was born November 23, 1952, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Clarence and Dolores (Estes) Piland. Randy graduated from Hoisington High School in 1971.
On November 25, 1972, he married Rhonda Hicks at the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington. A longtime Hoisington resident, he worked for many years in all aspects of the oil field. In 1994 he began working for juvenile corrections, later becoming the woodshop instructor, a job he greatly enjoyed, building a good rapport with many of his students, retiring in 2015.
Randy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hoisington, and a 3rd Degree Master Mason with the Hoisington Masonic Lodge #331. He loved hunting and fishing, especially fly fishing. He was a fantastic woodworker and could fix about anything. Randy loved to spend time with the grandkids hanging out in the man cave and entertaining them with his storytelling.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rhonda Piland of the home; daughter, Jatim Wagner and husband Cory of Olmitz; son, Justin Piland of Hoisington; half-brother, Mark Crawford and wife Nancy of Hoisington; three grandsons, Braydin Piland, Logan and Lane Wagner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth Piland, a son-in-law, Josh Emerson, and a daughter-in-law, Tanya Piland.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, rural Great Bend, Kansas. Per Randy's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing. Friends may sign the book at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Clara Barton Hospital Foundation, Cheyenne Bottoms, or the Hoisington High School Debate Team, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.
