Randall Jay Vanderven

Randall "Randy" Jay Vanderven, age 73, passed away September 30, 2025, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 14, 1952, to Harold and Beverly (Maynard) Vanderven and was a lifelong resident of Muskegon. After attending Reeths-Puffer, he went to Muskegon Community College. From there he worked many years at Amstore Corp. before working for the Electrician's Union. In 2009, Randall married Susan Lamphere and they shared 31 years together, filled with love and many memories. Randy had a love for Harley Davidson and was part of the Muskegon Motorcycle Gang. When he had down time, he found peace on the water and in the woods hunting and fishing. You could almost always find him in the garage either tinkering with things or doing some woodwork. He would never let you leave in your car without making sure your car was safe. He had a fix-it heart and was great at it. There was nothing he couldn't fix. Randy's greatest love though, was his family. He enjoyed cookouts in the summer and, come the holidays, he was in charge of the "horsetails" (polish roses). He always kept us laughing. Randy will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Susan; 2 daughters, Melissa (Jeff) Novak, Nicole (Nick) Homan; 5 grandchildren, Lea (Keegan) Lucarelli-Chalker, Michaela Sturtevant, Mia Sturtevant, Aliah MacLean, and Kendric (Kaeli) MacLean; 1 great-grandchild, Violet Chalker; brother, Jeff Stiles; sister, Candy (Wyman) Balcom; 2 brother's-in-law, David (Diana) Lamphere and Greg (Jill) Lamphere; and sister-in-law, Sue Vanderven. He is also survived by his beloved cats, Dexter (aka Weasel) and Garage Cat Gary (aka Killer). He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Steve and Dennis Vanderven. As Randy would always say, "One more and we gotta go" Memorial Contributions can be made to Harbor Hospice in his name.
