Biography: Randolph Byrd "Randy" Hopkins passed away on New Years Day, 2025.
He was born December 16, 1951, at the US Naval Hospital in Oakland, California to Byrd and Mary Hopkins. His father was serving in the Korean War.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Reed Hopkins and his daughter, Frances.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sarah, his daughters, Elizabeth Blackshaw (Jordan), and Catherine Tidwell (James); his grandchildren, Anna and Bryce Blackshaw, and Joey and Thomas Tidwell; his sisters, Ginny Hopkins of Kenneth Square, PA, and Betsy Reneghan (Peter) of Naples, FL.
Randy grew up in Hampden, MA and later moved to Longmeadow, MA where he attended Longmeadow High School. He loved playing ice hockey and shooting archery. For two summers, he attended Camp Keewaydin in Canada where he mastered the art of canoeing and learned many outdoor skills that he continued to use throughout his life.
Randy graduated from Guilford College, in Greensboro, NC with a psychology degree. While there, he met and married Sarah Brown from Little Rock, Arkansas. Together they returned to Arkansas, and in 1977, he received a law degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville. He practiced law in Little Rock for many years before retiring.
Randy loved his wife, daughters and grandchildren, but a close second was his love of the outdoors, and he was incredibly happy when they were combined. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, competitive trap shooting, flying a plane, taking long boat rides on Lake Hamilton, and memorable drives to California and Alaska. He loved exploring Arkansas, walking his dogs, and taking care of his many bird feeders.
He was a member of the Country Club of Little Rock, Yancopin Hunting Club, the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of Arkansas, the Arkansas Bar Association and Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation, 2 Natural Resources Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205, or Audubon Arkansas, 4500 Springer Blvd, Little Rock, AR 72206
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2024, at Our Lady of Holy Souls Catholic Church followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of RuebelFuneralHome.com
